“Elite Again”

May 16, 2008

A nice little DVD came in the mail yesterday. Entitled, “Elite Again” this short but incredibly sweet feature on the past season was a great way for Xavier to follow up on “The Run” from 2004. If you get a chance to watch you must do so as soon as possible.

It does not go into any thorough game analysis. Rather, it is a collection of interviews featuring Sean, AD Mike Bobinski, Stan, B.J., Director of Basketball Operations Mario Mercurio (great name) and another dude in the athletic office. Surprisingly, no other player or Father Graham were interviewed.

My favorite quote came early on from Sean. “To me, it start’s with a team willing to play defense to the best of their ability. If you really think about that, if you have that in place, it’s really hard to be selfish on offense.” Spoken like a coach of the year candidate if you ask me. Also, I think that’s gonna make the quotes section in my facebook profile!

So make sure to check out the DVD. It’s well worth 20 minutes of your time.

We’ll try to post a bit more, but honestly, there hasn’t been much to talk about in regards to Xavier basketball recently.

Although, I did watch the Hornets/Spurs game last night and hopefully D West’s back will be good enough to go and dominate the bitches otherwise known as the Spurs in game 7 Monday night. In regards to the Spurs I really do want to like them. They seem like likable guys (except for Bowen) off the court and play a great style of team basketball that is pleasing to a basketball dork like me. But I can only take so much of the flops and bitching to the refs before I start to turn on you and hope you lose every game. Right before ESPN cut away to a commercial one could see Tony Parker bitching at a ref and Tim Duncan bitching at a different ref at an entirely different spot on the court. It’s just like, “enough is enough, shut up, go back to the huddle, and just play.” So here’s hoping to another Hornets win and a chance for David West to play in the NBA finals. Oh, and Chris Paul was not happy with the Spurs’ fans. Revenge factor anyone?
