I Hate Charlie Frederick…

by

…but damn do I love me some Josh Duncan. 7-7 from the field, 5-5 from the places on the court where instead of 2 points, field goals count as 3. One of those was for the game. 8 boards to help us out rebound the 9ers by 8. He took the the charge that could have put them up by 3 with less than a minute left. But, who is Charlie Frederick, and why do I hate him?

Charlie Frederick is the voice of the Charlotte 49ers on the radio.   I was forced to listen to him while watching the game online, and he was extremely annoying. I mean, this cat was looking for a whistle to bail his 9ers out EVERY time down the court. Being pro-home team is one thing, but it was like sitting next to that annoying fan who makes himself believe that his team is constantly getting screwed by everyone. And if it were up to him, we would have had 7 technical fouls instead of just the 1 which I was begging Sean Milla to get, as the refs were killing us int he first half. They weren’t any better in the second half, but we started getting some calls (most likely due to Sean’s “lobbying”). This didn’t sit well with my friend Charlie. But who cares, I hate him.

Our guards did not play well today. Drew had 7 turnovers, Stan the Man had 4, CJ had 5. 22 by the team. Yucky. The zebras didn’t let Stanley defend too tightly, as for the first time in his career he had 3 fouls at the half. Either way, the boys played pretty sloppy ball. Each team hit 8 threes, but Charlotte threw up like a million. Well, 26. We attempted 16. Good conversion (thank you Josh Duncan).

AGAIN, it’s good to see our squad win a close game that goes down to the wire. Seriously, I would kill for like an 8 point win or something. But winning is winning, and hopefully we can keep the clutch play up going into tournament play.

Jason Love dunked. Jason Love neeeeeeeeever dunks.

Goldwire went off. 31 points, 7 threes, 3 steals, and his name sounds like a James Bond villain which is pretty cool I guess. However, he had basically no help from the other Gold Diggers. 30.1% from the field, a lot of missed three balls, and a lot of fouls. This helped us win an ugly ball game.

Coach Milla had a pretty funny post game interview on 550. He joked about how horrible the refs were, saying that he couldn’t say much because he would get in trouble. He also took credit for the game-winning 27 footer by Duncan, as he said it was the only play he drew up that worked. Good to hear Coach in good spirits. All I can think about now is how terrible his spirits would be if the ends of these last 3 games didn’t go our way. But instead, we are flirting with the top 10 spots in both polls.

Coach also mentioned that Josh may become the first A10 player of the week from XU this year. Strange for a team that is on top of the league standings, but I think it’s more of a testament to the team play that Milla has instilled in these boys, and it has been working out pretty well for us.

Monday Night in Rhode Island. Proly gonna be another heart-stopping, close game that goes down to the last second. Damnit.

Go X! Beat the Rams!

    Couple things:
First, Kenny Frease was one of the students who recieved illegal calls from IU’s coach Sampson. He was investigated by the NCAA and had people questioning him. However, they assured him there will be no repercussions on his part.

Second, the reason Milla got the T was not because of anything he said to the refs. He was stairing down the A10 official observer on the sideline. Apparently, he said something to him, and apologized after the game.

Third, Charlie Frederick just fouled me. I can’t believe they didn’t call that one. The officiating is horrible here. Also, it’s surprising that Josh Duncan hit all those threes, considering (according to Frederick) he only hits them “every now and then.”

Fourth, it appears Hammer was playing with the flu. Or at least he missed some practice the past couple days because of it. No excuses from him, though. Never said it in his interviews.

Justin Cage (Aka best player ever) has his named drop in a recent SI.com article on Courtney Lee of Western Kentucky. They played in high school together and the talent on that team in Indy, and what they accomplished is amazing.

yet another good win for the boys….yeah it wasnt pretty, but again, these are the types of games you HAVE to win because its all about being ready for the tournament and every now and then you get into one of these games and its better to come out on top then wondering what the fuck happend. and josh must be pissed about coming off the bench (even if it is for about 1 minute into the game) and being called soft. good to have the old josh back that we’ve seen before
